First Time at a Dispensary? Here’s What to Expect at The Frosted Nug

First time visiting a dispensary in New Jersey? At Frosted Nug in Carneys Point, we make it easy. Learn what to bring, what to expect, and how your first visit works—from check-in to checkout—in a welcoming, no-pressure environment.

Walking into a cannabis dispensary for the first time can feel intimidating. Maybe you don’t know what to ask for. Maybe you’re worried about looking like you don’t know what you’re doing. Maybe you’ve never bought cannabis legally before and the whole thing feels unfamiliar.

We get it. And we built The Frosted Nug specifically so you wouldn’t have to feel any of that.

Located in Carneys Point, NJ, The Frosted Nug is designed to be the opposite of a rushed, transactional dispensary experience. We want you to take your time, ask questions, and leave feeling genuinely excited about what you’re taking home. Here’s exactly what your first visit looks like, step by step.

What to Bring

Keep it simple. All you need is:

  • A valid government-issued photo ID proving you’re 21 or older (driver’s license, passport, state ID, or military ID)

  • Payment — we accept cash, debit, and credit cards. Online payment is coming very soon as well.

  • Your questions — seriously, bring every question you have. There is no such thing as a dumb question here.

That’s it. No appointment needed, no membership, no residency requirement. If you’re 21 with a valid ID, you’re welcome.

Your First Visit, Step by Step

Step 1: Walk In and Check In

When you arrive, you’ll enter through a free-flowing vestibule and be greeted right away by a friendly face behind the glass in our check-in office. Hand them your ID and they’ll get you set up. If it’s your first time, they’ll let you know about our 20% new customer discount. They’ll also fill you in on any specials running that day — and our team is genuinely excited about the deals they’re sharing because they actively help us decide what goes on sale based on what’s great on the menu.

If you’re a returning customer, our team remembers you. They remember what you like. And if your favorite product happens to be on special that day, they’ll make sure you know before you even walk through the doors.

Step 2: Browse at Your Own Pace

Once you’re through the doors, you’ll find four self-service kiosks where you can scroll through our entire menu at your own speed. No one hovering over your shoulder. No line of people behind you making you feel rushed. No judgment. Just you and the menu, taking as long as you need.

We also have bud bars where you can see and smell the actual flower before you buy. This is something most dispensaries don’t offer, and it makes a huge difference when you’re trying to figure out what appeals to you.

If you need help at any point, our team will come to you. Every person on our staff is trained on all aspects of the cannabis plant — from cultivation and terpene profiles to effects and consumption methods. They can help you find the right product based on what you’re looking for, whether that’s something for sleep, pain relief, creativity, socializing, or just unwinding after a long day.

Need to have a more personal conversation? We have a private consultation room with couches for anyone who wants to discuss sensitive topics in a comfortable, judgment-free space. Some people are navigating cannabis for the first time to help with a medical situation, and they deserve privacy and patience.

Step 3: Check Out

When you’re ready, you can send your order straight from the kiosk, or walk up to one of our four checkout registers if you already know what you want. Our team at the register can also pull up past purchases if you forget what you bought last time, add items to your cart on the spot, and make sure you’re signed up for our loyalty rewards program so you start earning one point for every dollar on your very first purchase.

We Don’t Rush You — Ever

Some dispensaries are built to get people in and out as fast as possible. We’re the opposite.

If you spend 15 minutes in the store, we’re happy about it. That means we got to show you everything, answer your questions, and get you as excited about what you’re buying as we are. We have couches in the lobby where you can sit down, relax, flip through a magazine or a book. We have about 30 screens around the store showing daily deals and product information with tasteful graphics that feel like they belong in Salem County.

And while you’re here, you’ll notice the coffee shop coming together next door and the private event space in the back, operated by The Connoisseurs Club. Once you see the full picture — the dispensary, the coffee, the events, the art, the community — it all clicks. This isn’t just a store. It’s a destination.

The Den: Local Glass, Art, and Culture

If you prefer a glass pipe over a joint, we’ve got you covered. The Den features locally sourced, hand-blown glass at affordable prices — and when we say affordable, we mean it. We don’t mark up any local glass. What the artist asks for is exactly what we sell it for.

A lot of our glass comes from artists who attend Salem Community College’s scientific glassblowing program — the only program of its kind in the entire country. These are people working hard at their craft right here in our community, and we want to put their work in front of as many people as possible. The same goes for local photographers, painters, and other artists. If you’re a local creator, bring your stuff in and we’ll figure out how to get it on the wall or in a case. And if it’s on consignment, the money goes straight to the artist. We don’t keep anything.

It’s all part of our mission to instill culture into this community and give people cool things to interact with when they visit.

Tips for First-Time Cannabis Consumers

If you’re not just visiting a dispensary for the first time but also trying cannabis for the first time, here’s our honest advice:

  • Start low with edibles. We recommend beginning with 2.5 mg and seeing how you feel before taking more. Edibles take longer to kick in than smoking, so give it at least an hour. You can always take more — you can’t take less.

  • If you’re smoking, take it slow. Take a couple of hits, put it down, and see how you feel. Light it back up if you want more. Start with a small pre-roll like a Dog Walker instead of jumping into something heavy.

  • Cannabis drinks are a great entry point. We carry 100 mg syrups with caps that measure out 10 mg doses, and THC seltzers are coming soon. It’s familiar, it’s easy to dose, and it’s a comfortable way to dip your toes in.

  • Tell your budtender you’re new. We love hearing it. It means we get to walk you through everything and help you find the perfect starting point. No one here will judge you for not knowing the lingo.

  • Don’t overdo it. The last thing we want is for someone to have a bad first experience and never explore the benefits of the plant again. We’d rather send you home with something mild that you enjoy than something overwhelming that turns you off. We’re here to help you find your comfort zone.
